Born and raised in Wisconsin, Sue has made a point of living most
of her adult life in places where weather forecasters never use
the phrase "wind chill." She graduated from the University
of Wisconsin/Madison; taught high school English for several years
in West Palm Beach, Florida; earned a Masters degree; then moved
to California to seek her fame and fortune as a writer. There she met her husband. They have two children, a daughter and
a son.
from ads to chapters to op-ed pieces
The Pulitzer Prize has, to date, eluded her, and Oprah still hasn't
called, but in the meantime, Sue stays busy writing ad copy, brochures,
newsletters, and web content. She freelances for numerous regional
and national publications. She has co-authored a book called Mission
Memoirs, published by Sunbelt Publications. And she has written
her own book, too, entitled The Snake in the Spin Cycle: And
Other Tales of Family Life, a collection of essays from the humor collumn she wrote or San Diego Family Magazine for more than a dozen years.
In 2002 her son, Roman, joined the Army and served in Iraq for nearly two-and-a-half years. During that time, Sue chronicled her family's war experiences from the perspective of the home front for several publications, most regularly for the Christian Science Monitor. She also recorded many of those pieces for National Public Radio. Sue is currently working on a book that has at its core the essays she wrote about the war while her son was in it. and there's more...
Sue also leads writing workshops for war veterans at the San Diego Vet Center on Sixth Avenue in San Diego, and occasionally teaches a course in the personal narrative through San Diego Writers, Ink. In her spare time, she is an avid reader, an adventuresome cook, a serious dabbler in graphic arts, and a good listener. She is available for writing assignments and speaking engagements.
